WISD Employee Child Care

  • entrance to facilityWISD Child Care Center welcomes all children of WISD employees from birth to 5 years old. The center operates in accordance with Federal and State laws, which prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, age, handicap, religion, national origin, or political belief. The child care center is licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and Child Care Services, a division of the Texas Workforce.

     
    The purposes of the center include meeting the developmental needs of the child served and acting as a supplement to his/her family by providing an atmosphere of activity and learning. The center is designed to accommodate 75 children from birth to 5 years old.  Only WISD employees may apply for enrollment of their children.

Program

  • Curriculum

    The Little Chiefs preschool curriculum, Scholastic Early Childhood Program, and Building Language for Literacy is closely aligned to the federal Early Reading First legislation.  Visit the SECP website for more information.


    Location

    The child care center is located in the Turner Learning Center, 614 Getzendaner Street. The center consists of 6 classrooms, a multipurpose room, and a playground.


    Hours of Operation

    The center is open Monday - Friday 6:45 am -5:00 pm, starting the first Monday of staff development in August and closing on the last day of school in June.  The center follows the WISD calendar for holidays and inclement weather closures.


    Tuition & Fees

    The center charges a yearly enrollment fee per child and a daily rate depending on the age of the child. All tuition payments are payroll deducted monthly starting in September. WISD child care center does accept CCS for qualifying parents. The daily tuition rate covers breakfast (cereal and milk), hot lunch, and afternoon snacks.

    group of people together in board roomAll child care staff are employed by WISD. Our teachers are all certified in CPR and First Aid and hold child development associate credentials. The staff is required to have 30 hours of childcare-related training per year.

    The child care center, a Texas Rising Star provider, received a grant from Workforce Solutions of North Texas and Scholastic Book Fairs for the Reading Oasis. The Reading Oasis offers opportunities to promote literacy for the children of the center and their families.  Parents are welcome to visit the Reading Oasis with their children.  Classes earned equipment from Texas Rising Star for becoming a 4-star provider.  Child care providers were recognized at the Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas Annual Early Childhood conference for achieving Texas Rising Star status.  WISD is a 4-star provider.
