The Waxahachie ISD Board of Trustees appointed Becky McCutchen as Superintendent of Schools in April 2025. She is set to commence her duties in June 2025.

Ms. McCutchen brings a wealth of experience, with twenty-eight years in public education, including seventeen years in administration and ten years as a Superintendent. She has most recently served as Superintendent of Levelland ISD for three and a half years and has held the same position at Alpine ISD since 2015.

Ms. McCutchen's career in education began as an agriculture classroom teacher in 1997. She served Culberson County-Allamoore ISD, Midland ISD, and Sierra Blanca ISD until 2005. She then joined Alpine ISD as an educational diagnostician, a role she held until June 2008 before becoming Director of Special Education until June 2015.

In her distinguished career, Ms. McCutchen was named a finalist for Texas Top Five Superintendent of the Year in 2020. She received the 2020 Superintendent of the Year award from the Region 18 Service Center. She served as President of the Texas Association of Rural Schools from 2018 to 2020 and has held various leadership roles on educational boards and committees.

Ms. McCutchen is proficient in Spanish, both spoken and written. She has two grown children, Garrett and April Watley, and enjoys team roping with her family.

Ms. McCutchen said Waxahachie ISD "has a longstanding tradition of excellence in both academics and extracurricular activities and is widely recognized as one of the most innovative and forward-thinking districts in the state. The unwavering support and pride of the community play a vital role in the district's continued success." She looks forward to "contributing to the ongoing growth and achievement of the district and students. We are Hachie!"

Dr. Averett has more than 30 years of experience in public education, beginning as a teacher in Waxahachie ISD before moving on to serve other districts in various adminstrative roles. He returned to Waxahachie ISD in 2019 as the Executive Director of Secondary Learning, was promoted in 2021 to Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Leadership, and was promoted to Associate Superintendent of Educational Operations in 2024.

Dr. Averett is a graduate of Waxahachie High School. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin, a master's degree from West Texas A&M University, and a doctorate from Dallas Baptist University. Dr. Averett and his wife, Traci, are the parents of Tyler, a 2023 graduate of Waxahachie High School, and Tatum, a current WHS student.
