      College Readiness Assessments

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is an excellent resource for students planning to attend college. This test evaluates students’ abilities in critical reading, mathematics, and writing. Waxahachie High School encourages freshmen, sophomores, and juniors to take the PSAT/NMSQT. By doing so, students can receive valuable feedback on their academic strengths and areas for improvement, prepare for the SAT, and, for juniors, enter the National Merit Scholarship competition.

PreACT assessments give students early exposure to the types of questions found on the ACT, offer a projected ACT score, and provide detailed information to help students begin their path toward college readiness. These results serve as indicators of how well students might perform in first-year college courses such as English, math, and science.

Consistent practice with these exams often leads to improved scores each time they are taken. High performance on college entrance exams can also open doors to scholarship opportunities, though practice ACTs are not scholarship-eligible. Additionally, the PreACT helps students see how they compare to their peers nationwide and highlights both their academic strengths and areas where they can grow.
