Early College High School
Early College Program
-
An Early College High School offers scholars the opportunity to graduate simultaneously with a high school diploma and an associate degree, for free. The Waxahachie ISD ECHS is hosted through a partnership with Navarro College and operates at Global High School. The Texas Education Agency has developed a designation process for Early College High Schools. The designation process ensures that school districts operating Early College High School campuses maintain the integrity of the model, which was researched and designed to specifically target and serve students who might not otherwise attend college. The TEA Early College High School Blueprint, which guides the designation process, includes six benchmarks. Benchmarks provide foundational principles and standards for innovative partnerships with colleges and universities.

Admission Policy & Enrollment Application
Global High School Admission Policy
Global High School ECHS follows the recruitment and admission guidelines set forth in the TEA Blueprint for Early College High Schools in Texas.
- The ECHS recruitment and enrollment processes shall identify, recruit, and enroll the subpopulations of at-risk students (as defined by PEIMS), including, but not limited to, students who are of limited English proficiency, students with disabilities, or students who have failed a state-administered assessment. Enrollment decisions shall not be based on state assessment scores, discipline history, teacher
recommendation, parent or student essays, minimum grade point average (GPA), or other criteria that create barriers for student enrollment. - The ECHS shall identify, recruit, and enroll subpopulations (in addition to those who are at risk as defined by PEIMS) that are historically underrepresented in college courses (e.g., first
generation college-goers, students of low socioeconomic status, African American, Hispanic, Native American.) - The ECHS shall clearly document recruitment and enrollment policies and practices; refining and improving them annually based on data reviews.
- Recruitment and enrollment processes (including marketing and recruitment plans, materials, and timelines) shall include input from key stakeholders (e.g., parents and community members; postsecondary partners); target student populations as described in 1 and 2 above; and include regular activities to educate students, counselors, principals, parents, and school board and community members.
- For admissions, the ECHS shall use either a performance-blind, open-access lottery system that encourages and considers applications from all students (all students have an equal opportunity for
acceptance, regardless of background or academic performance) or a weighted lottery that favors students who are at risk or who are part of the targeted subpopulations for the ECHS.

Interview & TSI Testing
During the interview with the principal, the students and parents will learn about our school's programs. Our students begin taking dual credit courses during their freshman year of high school through our partnerships with Navarro College in Waxahachie and the University of Texas at Tyler. The interview gives the parents and students a chance to ask questions about our programs and explain any special circumstances or needs that a student may have. Following the interview, Global High will contact the parents about TSI testing for the student. The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a test that all students in Texas must take before taking college-level classes. The TSI testing session will be scheduled during the summer either at Global High School or the Navarro College campus in Waxahachie. The students do not have to pass the TSI test on their first try, but they need to take the test before being accepted to Global High School. Once all the admission requirements have been met, the parents will receive an email letter of acceptance to Global High to confirm the student's enrollment for the fall semester.
