Dr. David Averett Named Acting Superintendent
The Waxahachie ISD Board of Trustees named Dr. David Averett the acting superintendent of Waxahachie ISD at a called meeting this morning. Dr. Averett will oversee all operations of the district and act as the district’s superintendent until a permanent superintendent is named.
Dr. Averett has more than 30 years of experience in public education, beginning as a teacher in Waxahachie ISD before moving on to serve other districts in various administrator roles. He returned to Waxahachie ISD in 2019 as the Executive Director of Secondary Learning, was promoted in 2021 to Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Leadership, and was again promoted earlier this year to Associate Superintendent of Educational Operations.
“Dr. Averett’s extensive knowledge and experience make him a valuable asset to Waxahachie ISD, and will serve him well as the acting superintendent,” said Dusty Autrey, WISD Board of Trustees President. “WISD is in very capable hands with Dr. Averett overseeing operations.”
Dr. Averett is a graduate of Waxahachie High School. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin, a master’s degree from West Texas A&M University, and a doctorate degree from Dallas Baptist University. Dr. Averett and his wife, Traci, are the parents of Tyler, a 2023 Waxahachie High School graduate, and Tatum, a current WHS student.
