Graduation Plans & Requirements

Capital of Texas building

In 2013, the Texas Legislature passed House Bill 5 which ultimately changed graduation plans and requirements for all incoming Freshmen and thereafter, beginning with the 2014-2015 school year. The bill provides more flexibility for students and allows them to choose various options that will prepare them for higher education or a career.

The new bill provides for a single graduation plan, the Foundation High School Program (FHSP). To enhance their educational experience, students will also have the opportunity to build on the Foundation plan by earning Endorsements, Performance Acknowledgements, and a Distinguished Level of Achievement.

All students must declare their endorsement areas, in writing, prior to the start of their ninth-grade year. Should a student wish to change their preferred endorsement, they may do so anytime during their high school career.

Performance Acknowledgement

Students may also earn Performance Acknowledgements for outstanding performance in Advanced Placement, Dual Credit, PSAT, ACT or SAT scores, Bilingualism and Biliteracy, and earning a nationally or internationally recognized business or industry certification or license.
