Waxahachie ISD Hires Principals for Global High School, Dunaway Elementary

 

At a special meeting this morning of the Waxahachie ISD Board of Trustees, the Board unanimously voted to hire two veteran Waxahachie ISD employees for new roles within the district.

 

headshot of Derek ZandtDerek Zandt, currently the principal of Finley Junior High, will step into the role of Global High School principal. Mr. Zandt is a Waxahachie High School graduate who has spent 17 years working in the district. He has been the principal of Finley Junior High for five years.

 

“Derek Zandt is a dynamic leader who has built a strong campus culture and reputation for academic excellence in his years at Finley Junior High,” said Dr. Jerry D. Hollingsworth, Superintendent of Waxahachie ISD. “We are excited to see what he and our accomplished staff and students at Global High School achieve together.”

 

Mr. Zandt served as an assistant principal at Finley for two years and was a teacher/coach at the junior high level for 10 years. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and a master’s degree from Lamar University.

 

headshot of Ginger AlemanGinger Alemán, currently the assistant principal at Dunaway Elementary School, will become that campus’s principal. Ms. Alemán has been with Waxahachie ISD since 2015 and has been the assistant principal at Dunaway for one year.

 

“Ginger Alemán is a passionate bilingual educator who has made a huge impact on the instructional practices at Dunaway Elementary in just one year,” said Hollingsworth. “We have no doubt that her vast array of skills will continue to benefit the students and staff on that campus.”

 

Ms. Alemán previously served as a bilingual coordinator for the district, as well as a dual language classroom teacher. Prior to her work in Waxahachie ISD, she was a bilingual teacher in Dallas ISD. She has served in public schools since 2001. Ms. Alemán holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and a master’s degree from the University of North Texas.
