Waxahachie ISD Names Theresa Burkhalter Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources

Waxahachie ISD announced today that Theresa Burkhalter will be the district’s new Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. In this role, Mrs. Burkhalter will oversee the district’s human resources functions and policies, including staffing, pay administration, leave administration, performance appraisal, employee relations, and employee benefits. Mrs. Burkhalter replaces Monica James, who has served in the role of Chief Human Resources Officer since 2019 and is retiring.

Mrs. Burkhalter has served Waxahachie ISD since 2010, and has nearly 30 years of experience in public education. She is currently in the role of Director of Human Resources for WISD, and has also served as a principal, assistant principal, and teacher in the district.

“Mrs. Burkhalter’s experience in our district has prepared her to adeptly take on this new role,” said Dr. Jerry D. Hollingsworth, WISD Superintendent. “I am confident that Mrs. Burkhalter will continue to lead our district in finding the highest-quality staff to serve the students of our community.”

“As I take on the role of Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, I will lead the department with integrity, professionalism, and exceptional customer service,” said Mrs. Burkhalter. “I am honored to work with the WISD staff members who make such a positive impact in the lives of our students.”

Mrs. Burkhalter holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas Woman’s University and a master’s degree from Lamar University. She and her husband, Chris, are both Waxahachie High School graduates and are the parents of Sam, also a WHS graduate, and Stephen, an incoming WHS freshman.
