headshot of Stephanie HeimbuchThe Waxahachie ISD Board of Trustees voted this evening to name current Dunaway Elementary School principal Stephanie Heimbuch the district’s new Executive Director of Special Services.

In her new role, Heimbuch will oversee the district’s special education program to ensure provision of needed services for identified students. In addition, WISD’s Health Services department and all dyslexia services in the district will fall under Heimbuch’s leadership.

“Stephanie Heimbuch is a great leader and extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of Texas public schools,” said Dr. Jerry D. Hollingsworth, WISD Superintendent. “Her ability to build relationships with students, staff, and parents is a great asset as she transitions into a new leadership role within Waxahachie ISD. I am excited to see the great things she and her team will accomplish in this vital area of our district.”

Heimbuch has been a leader in Waxahachie ISD since 2020, when she became assistant principal at Wedgeworth Elementary School. She has been the principal of Dunaway Elementary School since July 2021, where she has led the campus to significant improvements in STAAR scores.

Prior to joining Waxahachie ISD, Heimbuch served as a curriculum coordinator and assistant principal in Red Oak ISD, and she also taught elementary school in Mansfield ISD and Lancaster ISD. She has nearly 30 years of experience in public education. Heimbuch holds a bachelor's degree from Northeastern State University and a master's degree from the University of Texas at Arlington, and holds a certification in special education.

Waxahachie ISD will begin the search for a new principal for Dunaway Elementary School later this month.
