Waxahachie ISD Hires Lopez to Lead Indian Baseball Program
Waxahachie ISD has hired Jesse Lopez as the new head coach of the Indians baseball team. Lopez comes to Waxahachie ISD from China Spring ISD, where he has been the head baseball coach since 2014.
In China Spring ISD, Coach Lopez has been responsible for the growth of the baseball program, and his varsity team qualified for the playoffs in all eight years of his coaching tenure, making it all the way to the UIL state finals in 2022. Prior to his time in China Spring ISD, Coach Lopez was a teacher and coach in Midway ISD.
“Waxahachie ISD’s baseball program has a rich tradition of excellence, and we are confident that Coach Lopez will build on the foundation that has been laid for the program,” said Greg Reed, WISD Athletic Director. “We are excited to welcome Coach Lopez and his family to Waxahachie ISD.”
In his short tenure at China Spring ISD, Coach Lopez has been the head coach for five All-State players and thirteen players who have gone on to play college baseball. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Howard Payne University, where he majored in exercise and sports science.
“I couldn’t be more excited and proud to be the next baseball coach at Waxahachie High School,” said Lopez. “The tradition of Indian baseball is special and something that is talked about around the entire state. This is a special place and the right fit for my family. I can’t wait to get to Waxahachie and meet the community, players, and their families.”
