Waxahachie ISD Hires Gary Barnard as Director of Fine Arts

At a called meeting of the Waxahachie ISD Board of Trustees, the Board voted to hire Gary Barnard as its new Director of Fine Arts. In this role, Mr. Barnard will oversee the district’s fine arts programs for all students from pre-K through twelfth grade, as well as UIL Academics programming.

Mr. Barnard currently serves as an assistant principal at Colleyville Heritage High School in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD. He has extensive experience as a band director at Colleyville Heritage High School, McKinney North High School, and Braswell High School (Denton ISD), as well as several years of experience as an associate band director at Carroll High School, Birdville High School, and Richland Middle School (Birdville ISD). In total, Mr. Barnard has nearly 20 years of experience in public education.

“Mr. Barnard’s deep knowledge of the fine arts, as well as his experience as a campus administrator, make him a great fit for this role,” said Dr. Jerry D. Hollingsworth, WISD Superintendent. “The fine arts remain a priority for Waxahachie ISD, and we believe Mr. Barnard is the right person to lead the department to continued excellence.”

Mr. Barnard holds a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Texas at Arlington and a master’s degree in educational administration from the University of North Texas. His wife, Daphne, is also an educator, and they have two children, Daniel and Brentwood.
