Solar Eclipse Event
On Monday, April 8, 2024, much of North Texas will be in the direct path of a total solar eclipse, including Waxahachie. The North Central Texas Council on Governments (NCTCOG) estimates that Waxahachie could have as many as 100,000 visitors to witness the eclipse, and Ellis County could have more than a quarter of a million visitors.
Given the many unknowns about this day, including what traffic will look like after the eclipse is over, Waxahachie ISD has decided to close on Monday, April 8. Students will not have to make up this day due to the additional time that has been built into our academic calendar. The district will provide each student with solar eclipse glasses, as well as information and activities for families watching the eclipse together. We thank you for your flexibility as we navigate this once-in-a-lifetime experience together.
