Addressing Aging Facilities
Waxahachie Independent School District is responsible for the ongoing maintenance of several aging facilities, some of which have been in use for over a century. Although the district performs routine upkeep on these older buildings, the proposed bond would enable the implementation of more comprehensive projects to enhance school safety and preserve the facilities’ quality as they continue to age. In addition, the bond would facilitate the repurposing of certain campuses to accommodate different grade levels, thereby optimizing the use of existing spaces and minimizing the necessity for new construction.
Capital Improvements
The bond allows for maintenance and repair of school buildings to improve campus safety and keep our facilities in good condition as they age. Capital improvement items address deficiencies related to life safety, campus security, and/or accessibility. These include:
- Fire Alarm System
- Doors/Locking Systems
- Windows
- Plumbing Systems
- Secure Vestibules/Entrances
- ADA Requirements
- Roofs
- Kitchen Equipment
- Video Camera Systems
- HVAC Systems
- Electrical Systems/Lighting
- Parking Lots/Driveways

Wilemon STEAM Academy
The mission of Waxahachie ISD’s Wilemon STEAM Academy is to create an innovative learning environment in which students thrive, using critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration to solve real-world problems and promote career awareness.
- Wilemon STEAM Academy is currently the third school in the nation to have all teachers National Institute of STEM Education Certified, and also holds the National Institute of STEM Education Campus certification.
- Wilemon utilizes “maker spaces” throughout the building as an extension of students' learning. Examples of these maker spaces include a “LEGO Wall,” “REC Room,” “Tinker Studio,” “Creation Station,” and “Design Den.” Some of these spaces are currently taking place in the middle of the hallway or have overtaken office/meeting spaces on campus.
- Enrollment at Wilemon STEAM Academy is lottery-based, and the number of applicants for enrollment each year of its existence has exceeded available space in its current campus location. A new, larger campus would allow more students the opportunity to attend Wilemon.
Finley Junior High
Hancock Building
- Originally constructed in 2002 as the district’s ninth-grade center.
- In 2018, the building became home to Global High School.
- When the building was designed, it was done with the idea that it may need to be expanded in the future; thus, expanding the building to hold 1,200 students requires little reconfiguration of the building.
