WISD Homecoming Parade UPDATE

September 18, 2026

Update

The Waxahachie ISD Homecoming Parade will take place as scheduled on Friday, September 18. This annual tradition is a special opportunity to celebrate our students, alumni, and the incredible spirit of our community.
We can't wait to celebrate our students, alumni, and community as we bring our Homecoming tradition through the streets of Waxahachie.

Please note that temperatures and the heat index are expected to be high during the parade timeframe. We encourage all spectators to plan by:

  • Bringing water and staying hydrated
  • Wearing hats and lightweight clothing
  • Bringing umbrellas for shade
  • Using pop-up canopies where appropriate along the route
  • Taking breaks from the heat as needed

Check out the parade route map below and find the perfect viewing spot. We look forward to seeing the community come together to celebrate Homecoming 2026. 🎺🏈💚

Waxahachie ISD is looking forward to celebrating Homecoming with our students, families, and community and is continuing to plan for the 2026 Homecoming Parade on Friday, September 18.

At the same time, we are closely monitoring weather conditions due to the potential for excessive heat. We are monitoring predicted wet-bulb temperatures, including anticipated conditions around 2 p.m., as an important factor in determining whether the parade can be held safely. Wet-bulb temperature accounts for both heat and humidity and helps indicate how difficult it may be for the body to cool itself in hot conditions.
The health and safety of our students and staff members participating in the parade, as well as community members attending, is our utmost concern.

WISD will make a final determination by Friday, September 11, based on predicted weather and wet-bulb conditions, applicable safety guidelines, and the status of required approval from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

The district has not yet received final TxDOT clearance. If conditions are determined to be unsafe or the required TxDOT approval has not been received by September 11, the parade will be canceled.

We appreciate our students, families, parade participants, staff, and community partners for their patience and understanding as we work to make the best decision for the safety and well-being of everyone involved. WISD will share the final decision publicly as soon as it is made.

Key Dates:

  • September 18: Homecoming Parade is currently planned.
  • September 11: Final determination based on weather, safety conditions, and TxDOT approval.
