WISD Names Executive Director of Special Education

Waxahachie Independent School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephanie 
Robertson is the district’s new Executive Director of Special Education, bringing more than two decades of educational leadership experience and a proven track record of improving outcomes for students with diverse learning needs.

Robertson joins Waxahachie ISD after serving as Director of Special Education for Garland ISD, where she provided strategic leadership for special education and behavioral support services across 68 campuses. In that role, she oversaw compliance systems, instructional programming, program evaluation, and professional learning initiatives designed to strengthen instructional quality and ensure alignment with state and federal requirements.

Before her work in Garland ISD, Robertson served in Dallas ISD as Manager of Special Services and Special Education Supervisor, leading districtwide compliance efforts, coordinating legal matters related to special education, and supporting instructional and programmatic improvements across dozens of campuses. Her experience also includes 13 years of campus leadership as an assistant principal, associate principal, and interim principal, as well as classroom 
teaching experience in both Dallas ISD and DeSoto ISD.

Throughout her career, Robertson has demonstrated exceptional leadership in developing systems that improve educational services and outcomes for students receiving special education support. She successfully led the implementation of a Texas Education Agency-approved Corrective Action Plan that brought a district into full compliance with state requirements, secured a $203,541 TEA Special Education Capacity Grant, and implemented monitoring systems that improved performance on key state indicators. Her work has also focused on strengthening the quality of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), reducing compliance risks, expanding professional learning opportunities, and increasing equitable access to services for students receiving support through Special Education, Section 504, MTSS, bilingual/ELL, and Gifted and Talented programs.

Stephanie Robertson is a highly respected special education leader whose expertise spans every level of educational service—from the classroom to campus administration to district leadership. Her extensive experience leading special education programs in large Texas school districts, coupled with her deep knowledge of compliance, instructional systems, student supports, and leadership development, makes her exceptionally qualified for this role. Stephanie has consistently demonstrated a commitment to ensuring that every student receives the services, opportunities, and support necessary to reach their full potential. Robertson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education and English from Dillard University and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from East Texas A&M University. She holds Texas certifications as a Principal (EC–12), Special Education Teacher (EC–12), and Secondary English Teacher (Grades 6–12).
