The Waxahachie ISD Board of Trustees named Rusty East as the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Leadership at their regular meeting on December 15, 2025.

Mr. East has over 22 years of experience in public education. He began his career at Clarendon College as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach and Student Life & Activities Director. He continued coaching and teaching for both Burleson ISD and Kemp ISD before coming to WISD. Here, he has served as a coach, English Inclusion Teacher, and Elementary Principal at both Shackelford and Felty. After serving as the Assistant Principal at Finley Junior High for one year, he became the Principal of Coleman Junior High, where he is currently in his fifth year in that position. He has led several of his campuses to A ratings. He has raised Coleman’s TEA accountability rating from a 73 to an 85, where they have maintained a B rating for 3 consecutive years.

Mr. East holds a Bachelor of Science from John Brown University, as well as a Master of Science in Health, Phys. Ed. and Recreation. He completed his Principal Certification in 2015, and he is currently working towards his Superintendent Certification.

WISD Superintendent Becky McCutchen said, “Rusty East brings 22 years of experience in education and 11 years of dedicated service to Waxahachie ISD to his new role as Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Leadership. His proven success as both a campus principal and instructional leader, along with his deep connection to our community, positions him well to support and strengthen elementary campuses across the district. We are confident that his collaborative leadership will help ensure our students and staff continue to thrive in WISD.”

I am excited for the opportunity to begin serving in the position of Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Leadership. WISD, and this community are very special to me, and I am committed to providing our students, staff, and community with strong leadership that will produce positive results. I am excited to work with our Elementary Leadership team, and it is my desire that our students and staff thrive and enjoy being a part of this great community.
