Waxahachie ISD is proud to announce that the Board of Trustees named Coach Lawrence Williams the district’s new head football coach and boys' athletic coordinator at their regular meeting on February 9, 2026. Coach Williams brings with him 29 years of distinguished experience in education, coaching, and student development. As a longtime educator and mentor, Coach Williams is deeply rooted in the mission of empowering young people through character-building, discipline, and high expectations.

Coach Williams is married to his wife, Karla, and together they have two daughters, Jailene and Jacinda. His career includes impactful roles at Fort Stockton, Pecos, Kermit, Blooming Grove, DeSoto, and, most recently, Waxahachie ISD. He has served as an offensive and defensive coordinator, assistant head coach, athletic director, head football coach, head baseball coach, and powerlifting coach. His extensive background spans teaching mathematics, physical education, special education, and leadership across multiple campuses.

Superintendent Becky McCutchen remarked, “Coach Williams brings not only a wealth of experience, but also a deep understanding of Waxahachie’s values and the students we serve. His leadership provides continuity for our athletes and supports a seamless transition as they continue their pursuit of excellence. We are excited for our WISD community to benefit from his passion, his experience, and his unwavering commitment to helping students thrive.”

Coach Williams’ coaching philosophy emphasizes discipline, accountability, and student-centered support—often going above and beyond by helping students with coursework, communicating with families, and investing personally in student success.

When asked about the new role, Coach Williams said,

I am humbled by the opportunity to carry on the Hachie tradition. I will lead to the best of my God-given ability, love these kids, and teach them to be men. If I do those things, the wins will take care of themselves. I won’t promise to be someone I’m not, and I won’t promise state championships—though that will always be the goal. What I do promise is to teach these young people the values and work ethic they need to be successful in this world.

Coach Williams’ appointment marks an exciting and forward-looking chapter for Waxahachie ISD athletics. His combined experience, servant leader mindset, and proven track record of elevating programs reinforce the district’s commitment
to excellence both on the field and in the classroom.

Waxahachie ISD is a district where innovation thrives, and growth is limitless. Our core values of Choices, Collaboration, Belonging, and Community enable Waxahachie ISD to engage and nurture students who have a positive impact on the world around them.
