Public Information Requests

Legal Framework for Open Government

Public Information Act

Open government is fundamental to a free society. As a local government entity, Waxahachie Independent School District is subject to the Texas Public Information Act. The PIA establishes a legal framework for open government and outlines the processes for the disclosure and protection of public information. It safeguards the rights of citizens to access information held by governmental bodies and gain a comprehensive understanding of governmental operations.

Public Information Act

The Office of the Attorney General ensures that governmental bodies in Texas remain open and accountable to the public they serve. Open government elevates the public to their rightful role as partners in leadership with governmental bodies. Waxahachie ISD is committed to providing the public with the necessary tools to foster this partnership.

Under Texas law, citizens have the right to access government records, and government officials are prohibited from inquiring about the purpose of the request. All government information is presumed to be accessible to the public, with certain exceptions. Governmental bodies must promptly release requested information that is not confidential by law or information for which an exception to disclosure has not been sought. Applicable charges will be applied as provided by Board Policy.
