Online screening is one of the quickest and easiest ways to determine whether you are experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition. Mental health conditions, such as depression or anxiety, are real, common, and treatable. And recovery is possible.
Every person deserves access to mental health care.
Waxahachie ISD has partnered with Care Solace to help families navigate the mental health care system to find available providers matched to specific needs, so you do not have to. Care Solace connects students, staff, and their families to care. At no cost to you, Care Solace will quickly and confidentially find available mental health and substance-use providers matched to your needs.

Helping our students succeed. The Waxahachie ISD counseling department has joined forces with Mind Above Matter to offer the iMatter after-school program for students in grades 6-12. Mind Above Matter collaborates with numerous school districts across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, providing mental health assessments and a range of therapy services during and after school hours.
This forward-thinking initiative removes obstacles that families often face when seeking treatment, enabling students to access care in a familiar school setting. Participation begins when school counselors refer students for on-campus services, allowing them to receive care within their educational environment.
The Waxahachie ISD counseling department has partnered with the North Texas Behavioral Health Authority to offer Multisystemic Therapy for our students and families. Therapists work in the home, school, and community, and a team member is on call 24/7 to provide caregivers with the tools they need to transform the lives of troubled young people. Research demonstrates that MST® reduces criminal activity and other undesirable behavior. MST is an evidence-based program that empowers young people (aged 12 – 17) and their families to function responsibly over the long term. MST reduces delinquent and antisocial behavior by addressing the core causes of such conduct, and views the client as a network of systems including family, peers, school, and neighborhood. Therapists have small caseloads and provide services in the home at times convenient to the family. The average length of treatment is between 3 and 5 months, and therapists and provider agencies are held accountable for achieving change and positive outcomes. For more information, please reach out to your campus counselor.
Outreach, Screening, Assessment, and Referral (OSAR)
OSAR removes barriers by providing outreach, screening, assessment, and referral services to individuals with substance use and/or co-existing disorders through brief intervention and linkage to treatment and recovery-oriented services. OSAR is a caring supportive network that proactively empowers youth, adults, and families impacted by alcohol, drugs, and co-existing mental illness to achieve a healthy quality of life and a recovery-informed community.
As many as 20% of students have behavioral, emotional, and mental health issues that require counseling or treatment. Of these young people, more than 80% never receive any mental health care for their issues, and 10% go on to drop out of school. The Waxahachie ISD counseling department has partnered with Next Step Community Solutions to provide a Licensed Professional Counselor to be available on campuses to work with our students on an as-needed basis at no cost. Next Steps Community Solutions wants to ensure that teens experiencing mental health issues get the support they need, no matter what.
Next Step only uses professionally licensed counselors to achieve the highest level of service. Next Step has been offering counseling services to East Texas schools for the past five years.
Philosophy
Students are referred by the campus counselor based on their individual needs. Once consent from the student’s parent/guardian is received, the student will begin receiving services from the next Step counselor. The program is administered within the school setting during school hours. Next Step counselors work closely with designated school staff and provide the right amount of counseling hours based on your unique needs.
WISD has developed practices and procedures for suicide prevention. This includes providing parents with information on identifying risk factors, accessing resources for treatment or support provided on and off campus, and accessing available student accommodations provided on campus. WISD has a procedure for providing notice to parents/guardians of students who are identified as at risk of attempting suicide. During the notification of parents/guardians of a student who is at risk of attempting suicide, parents are provided with counseling resources and alternatives. Parents are also given procedures and support for the return of a student to school following hospitalization/residential treatment or following suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention.
