District Advisory Team (DAT) - District Educational Improvement Committee

In compliance with Education Code 11.251 and Board Policies BQA(LEGAL) and BQA(LOCAL), the Waxahachie ISD District Advisory Team, or DAT, shall advise the Board of Trustees or its designee in establishing and reviewing the District’s educational goals, objectives, and major district-wide classroom instructional programs identified by the Board or its designee. The committee shall serve exclusively in an advisory role except that the committee shall approve staff development of a district-wide nature and class-size waivers.

The Superintendent shall be the Board’s designee and shall appoint the chairperson of the committee. For Waxahachie ISD, the chairperson is Shelle Blaylock, Assistant Superintendent for Leadership and Academics. Lisa Mott, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, will also help coordinate the meetings.

The chairperson of the committee shall set the agenda, and schedule at least four meetings per year. All committee meetings shall be held outside of the regular school day.

In addition to the statutorily mandated duties at BQA(LEGAL), the committee shall:

1. Establish the fundamental convictions, values, and character of the District.
2. Develop a mission statement describing the basic purpose and function of the District.
3. Develop policies on parameters within which the District shall strive to achieve its mission.
4. Establish strategies on initiatives to accomplish the objectives of the District.

The committee shall be composed of members who shall represent campus-based professional staff, District-level professional staff, parents, businesses, and the community.

The District shall have a District Improvement Plan or DIP, that is developed, evaluated, and revised annually, in accordance with District policy, by the Superintendent with the assistance of the committee. The purpose of the District Improvement Plan is to guide District and campus staff in the improvement of student performance for all student groups in order to attain state standards in respect to the student achievement indicators. Education Code 11.252(a)

All WISD District Advisory Team meetings are held at the WISD Administration Building boardroom. The meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. on scheduled days throughout the school year.  All meetings are open to the public.
