Waxahachie Global High School, an Early College High School, has announced the addition of two academies for the 2019-2020 school year, one focused on International Business and the other on Health Science.
The new academies join the STEM-focused curriculum currently being taught at Global High School to provide additional opportunities for students. Whether they choose a STEM, International Business, or Health Science track, all Global students have the opportunity to earn an associate’s degree while still in high school. Approximately 90 percent of Global High School students graduate with an associate’s degree each year.
“We are so excited to be able to offer additional opportunities through our academy programs to Global High students,” said Ken Lynch, principal of Waxahachie Global High School. “We believe that we will be able to reach even more students with the addition of academies at Global, enabling them to earn college credit while still in high school.”
Members of the community have volunteered to serve on advisory committees for the International Business and Health Science academies as curriculum and other programs are developed. The Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce has taken an active role in recruiting local business people and healthcare experts to assist with this important project, and Chamber president Sandy King will serve in an advisory role as the academies are launched.
“Global High School and Waxahachie ISD are grateful to those in our community who are always willing to help our students,” said Waxahachie ISD interim superintendent Bonny Cain. “We know the expertise provided by our committees will make Global High School academies even better, and our students deserve that.”
Academies in International Business and Health Science will be available to freshman students and qualifying sophomore students in the 2019-2020 school year.
Global High School accepts students by application only from throughout the southern Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. There is no cost to attend Global High School. Applications will be available in early 2019 at www.global.wisd.org.
