The Waxahachie ISD Board of Trustees has named Dr. Bonny Cain as the interim superintendent for the district. Dr. Cain will officially begin her tenure with the district on Tuesday, September 4.
“I am so excited to be part of a growing, thriving district like Waxahachie ISD,” said Dr. Cain. “Great things are happening in Waxahachie ISD, and I look forward to working with the staff to keep things running smoothly until a permanent superintendent is hired.”
Dr. Cain was most recently the superintendent of Waco Independent School District, retiring from the district in 2017. Prior to that, she served Pearland ISD for nearly 25 years, in roles that included superintendent, district-level administrator, and campus administrator.
Dr. Cain holds a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Houston, in addition to two master’s degrees. She is an accomplished writer and speaker, and throughout her career, she has served on a number of state-level educational organization boards, including the Texas School Alliance, the State Board for Educator Certification, the Texas Middle School Association, and the Texas Academic Decathlon Organization.
“Dr. Cain is well-respected throughout the state, and brings with her the experience to assist a fast-growth district,” said Dusty Autrey, Waxahachie ISD Board of Trustees President. “We look forward to working with her, and know she will make an impact in our district during her time here.”
The Board of Trustees will be working with a superintendent search firm to seek candidates for the superintendent position. They expect to have a permanent superintendent in place by January 2019.
