Distance Learning Begins March 25

Dear Waxahachie ISD Families:

We thank you for your trust in us and your patience. We have spent much of this week focusing on plans for distance learning for our students.

We are committed to the success of each student in our district as we weather this unprecedented situation. Distance learning for all students will begin on Wednesday, March 25. By implementing distance learning, students will be able to master all learning objectives so as to successfully complete this school year by May 28.

Distance Learning

Waxahachie ISD will provide distance learning plans for students via the WISD website. You will receive an email from your child’s campus on Tuesday, March 24, with more detailed information. Assignments can be completed using a Chromebook, laptop, or desktop computer.

Devices

The district will provide families with devices for distance learning if they do not already have one to use at home. If you have not already done so, please complete our Family Internet Survey so that we can better understand the number of devices needed by our students.

If you plan to pick up a device, please review the Chromebook Loan Program Guidelines as soon as possible. Device distribution will occur at Waxahachie High School at the Career & Technology entrance located on the west side of the building. Upon arrival, parents will be required to complete the WISD Chromebook Loan Program Agreement form. Devices will not be checked out to students; they must be obtained by a parent or guardian.

Pick-up dates and times are:

One device will be issued per family during the initial distribution. If device supplies are sufficient to issue additional devices, the district will issue them to families with three or more WISD students.

Device distribution will take place outdoors to allow for better social distancing. If it is raining, we will allow no more than five people in the building at one time.  If you do not have transportation available to pick up a device, please email, and we will accommodate you.

Meals for Students

While Waxahachie ISD is closed to students, we will continue providing meals for students on weekdays via drive-through sites at Turner Pre-K Academy, Wedgeworth Elementary, and Northside Elementary.

Meals are available for all children ages 1-18. Breakfast and lunch will be provided each weekday from 7:00-9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.-noon and may be picked up at the same time. Children may also walk to the meal distribution sites to pick up their meals if they are able.

We thank you for your flexibility as we work through these new processes and appreciate your continued willingness to invest in the education of your children. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to send an email or contact your child’s principal.

Stay safe, healthy, and happy!

Respectfully,

Dr. Bonny Cain
Superintendent
