Waxahachie ISD has experienced significant growth in student enrollment over the past five years. With a student population of more than 7,600, the district is continually on a quest for “Excellence in Education.” Although our students continue to do well both academically and in extra-curricular activities, more than half of our students are economically disadvantaged. What does this mean? District data indicates that 52%, or half of our students, are on the free and reduced lunch program, which is a program that follows federal income guidelines.
Enter Operation First Day of School.
Any parent will tell you that there are a number of expenses involved when it is time to go back to school. School supplies, new school clothes, immunizations and the list could go on and on. Often times parents can not afford to purchase these items for one child much less if there are several school children in the household.
For the fifth year in a row, Waxahachie ISD will host “Operation First Day of School: Equipping Our Students for Excellence.” The event will be held August 13, 2013 at Clift Elementary School located on 650 Park School House Road from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 6-8:00 p.m. With your help, the district will provide the following resources for our students:
• Free School Supplies
• Free School Clothes (New or Gently Used)
• Free Hair Cuts
• Free Immunizations
This major initiative will only be made possible through partnering with the wonderful Waxahachie community. The district is looking to partner with businesses, organizations, churches and individuals to help us acquire school supplies, new and gently used clothing and volunteers to help run the event. Financial donations will be taken through July 30th. Clothing and school supply donations will be taken through Monday, August 5, 2013.
Since 2009, Operation First Day of School has assisted more than 2,000 families and more than 5,000 children. Operation First Day of School will operate on a first come, first serve basis. We hope that you will partner with us in this great initiative to help our future leaders be successful in the classroom.
