From Kindergartners to Seniors – Dr. Griggs DeHay Retires from WISD School Board After Twelve Years of Service
Twelve years ago the 2008 graduating class was just beginning their tenure with Waxahachie ISD and to their good fortune so was one other individual – Dr. Griggs DeHay, Vice President of the WISD Board of Trustees. Dr. DeHay began his service to the district in 1996 and in May 2008 he will retire.
Throughout Dr. DeHay’s leadership, Waxahachie ISD has experienced many positive changes. During his tenure with the district, Wedgeworth Elementary was built in 1999, the Fine Arts Center and the Waxahachie Ninth Grade Academy in 2001, the rebuilding of Marvin Elementary in 2002, and lets not forget the three new schools that will open in August 2008 – Felty Elementary, Clift Middle School and the Howard Eighth Grade Center. He has seen the district grow from seven campuses to thirteen and the student population has escalated in just twelve years.
"Serving on the WISD Board with Griggs DeHay has been a true pleasure,” stated Dr. Joe Langley, President WISD Board of Trustees. “Words are inadequate to express the admiration and appreciation I hold for Griggs. We are going to miss his wisdom, insight, experience and genuine interest in the education of children.”
Also adding to Langley’s words of praise was Thomas J. Collins, WISD Superintendent. “On behalf of the entire WISD family, I would like to thank Dr. DeHay for his many years of service to our district. His dedication and commitment has been appreciated and will be applauded for years to come.”
The district will host a “Come and Go” reception for Dr. DeHay on Monday, April 14th from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the WISD Administration building. The entire community is invited to attend.
“Dr. DeHay has given WISD and the Waxahachie community twelve years of selfless service. May he long realize the life-changing impact he has had upon thousands of young lives," Langley said.
